Tire pressure control system at ClassicCar-Frei (RDKS)
Since November 1, 2014, all newly registered passenger cars in Switzerland must have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
What are the benefits of correct tire pressure?
Better driving characteristicsLower fuel consumptionReduced tire wear
What systems are there?
Indirect system: With the indirect system, the tire pressure is measured via the ABS or ESP sensors that are already installed in the vehicle. This can detect a drop in pressure in the tires, but not an exact value. Direct system: With the direct system, a sensor is installed in each tire that transmits the correct tire pressure and temperature to the on-board computer.
What does this system mean for the driver?
If the tire pressure warning light comes on, check the tire pressure as soon as possible and inflate the tire if necessary. When changing tires (with direct system), mount the rim in the same place. Otherwise, the new position of the tires must be transmitted to the vehicle via the computer.Whenever you change tires (with direct system), check the battery status of the sensors and replace the sensor if necessary. When changing tires (with indirect system), confirm that the tire pressure is correct using the vehicle button or the on-board computer.
